This help doc is intended for Chinafy users to make additional configurations on the DNS. This is applicable only for the Chinafy users who -
- Optimizes an apex domain with Chinafy ("@.yoursite.com" or "yoursite.com") AND
- Points their DNS records to the apex domain name in (1) via CNAME records, A records, or MX records
If both requirements are met, you will need to make changes to the DNS records. As the Chinafy service is enabled for the hostname "@" only, it is an incompatible setting to have multiple hostnames pointing to the Chinafy-optimized apex domain. To keep the service for these records working as intended, we'd suggest you point them directly to the origin IP (see the steps below):
Step 1: Locate the DNS records that will require reconfiguration
- Log in to your DNS and look for any records pointing to your apex domain (e.g., yoursite.com). This is likely a CNAME record, an A record, or an MX record.
- For example, the hostname "www" may be pointing to "yoursite.com" as a value under a CNAME record. In this case, proceed to Step 2 (see below)
Step 2: Locate your Global Origin IP
- Before deploying Chinafy, there was an A record that points the hostname "@" to an IP address. This is the Global Origin IP you'll need for Step 3
- You may also retrieve the IP address by copying the value of your A record with the hostname "chinafyorigin". The IP address should match the one prior to Chinafy deployment
Step 3: Create/edit your DNS record
- If you have a CNAME record from Step 1 (e.g. www), create a new A record with the same hostname and TTL (if provided). Enter the Global Origin IP as your value. Remove the CNAME record after the new record is saved.
- If you have an A record/MX record from Step 1, edit its value to replace it with your Origin IP (copied from step 2)
Step 4: Hit Save on the DNS
In case you encounter any issues or the changes don't take effect as expected, consider the following troubleshooting steps:
- Double-check the modified DNS record for any typos or missing details
- Verify that the modified record points to the correct Global Origin IP
- Contact your Chinafy account manager for assistance
