Chinafy enables optimal video delivery of your site by i) accelerating cacheable static files with our near-China CDN and ii) converting embedded videos on inaccessible players into their non-branded China-friendly version on an ongoing basis.
The latest version of Chinafy is able to optimise Vimeo and YouTube embeds.
In this article, we'll take a look at best practices to optimise embedded videos with Chinafy.
- Use direct embed with Chinafy
- Avoid using m3u8 file format
- Avoid using 3rd-party embed plugins
- Enquire support for custom scripts (e.g .fullscreen background)
1. What direct embeds work with Chinafy?
Chinafy works best with direct embeds using Vimeo or YouTube. Below are some examples for html embed codes that we support:
Vimeo embed*
<iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/videoid" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" allowfullscreen></iframe>
*IMPORTANT: Please enable Public or Unlisted under Privacy Settings on Vimeo for automated conversion. See more context about how Chinafy supports Vimeo on different privacy settings here.
YouTube embed
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://youtube.com/embed/videoid" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
How to use Chinafy Video Optimisation?
You have total control over all discovered video files via the Chinafy Dashboard. See a step-by-step guide to navigate Chinafy Dashboard (linked)
2. So, what doesn't work with Chinafy?
a) Avoid using m3u8
Chinafy players do not currently support m3u8 files. We recommend that you convert m3u8 files into mp4 files if they are intended for video-on-demand purposes.
b) Avoid 3rd-party Embed Plugins (e.g. Embed.ly)
These plugins tend to use deep nested embed codes that Chinafy cannot support without deep reverse-engineering. This means longer turnaround times and we cannot guarantee long-term functionality as these codes may change outside of our control in the future.
c) Enquire more on Support for Custom Scripts
Custom scripts are great for supporting embed experience best for your visitors.
For example, javascripts are used to dynamically load Vimeo or YouTube players for fullscreen backgrounds.
As your scripts are designed to support Vimeo and YouTube - which are both inaccessible in China, we'll need to evaluate them to use with Chinafy players on a case-by-case basis.
Please note that your scripts may not be fully compatible with Chinafy player and we will require you to make modifications if possible to enable the functionality on your Chinafy site.
